Media infrastructure for the main stadium of Uzbekistan

Project for the implementation of multimedia infrastructure for the central stadium of Uzbekistan, Bunyodkor Stadioni, built in Tashkent under the patronage of President Islam Karimov.

Arena “Bunyodkor”

The stadium has a capacity of 34,000 spectators and is the home arena of Tashkent’s Bunyodkor football team. The modern complex on the territory of 56 hectares includes 7 modern football fields, a children’s and youth football school, a swimming pool, premises for athletes, referees, coaches, football administrators, a press conference hall, a football club museum, three restaurants and a fitness center. The stadium is equipped with an audio system, lighting equipment, and in the evening the facade is effectively illuminated by a special system with the romantic name “Flame of the East”. The head of Uzbekistan spoke at the stadium’s opening ceremony:

“… We are taking part in a historic event that will leave a deep mark on the history of our country – the opening of the beautiful, unique Bunyodkor sports complex. This event is also important because Uzbek football is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Those who watched the construction process could only call it a miracle. Looking at this majestic building, which can host competitions of any level, one can easily answer the question: who we were and who we have become, what we have achieved. Such facilities serve primarily to educate our youth to be physically and spiritually developed.”

Multimedia infrastructure

In the summer of 2012, the task was set to create a multimedia infrastructure for the sports complex for professional media coverage of sports events held within the Bunyodkor complex. At that time, our company received the status of a special UEFA expert during Ukraine’s preparation for the European Football Championship EURO 2012, as we developed and implemented projects to create TV infrastructure for the newest sports complexes Donbass Arena and Arena Lviv. That’s why our partner Broadcast Solutions invited us to this project as a contractor.

The project was implemented in a very short time.

“We had only a month to develop the solution,” says Alexander Selyaninov, deputy director of VisionHOUSE. – “The project consisted of two parts: a TV infrastructure for the stadium and a mobile TV station. The PTS was supplied by Broadcast Solutions, and we built the TV infrastructure.”

The project was implemented in a very short period of time – about 8 months. The quickly developed specification included: passive cabling infrastructure for 35 positions for hybrid cameras, video, audio and communication; a switching panel for connecting PTC; equipment for commentary seats; a control room for managing the media system, where operators responsible for displaying and distributing graphics and video work.

Professional local lighting systems from Arri and Lowel were installed at several venues: in press rooms, in the blitz interview area, in the panoramic studio, in the conference room and locations for filming the teams’ exits, etc.

In addition, the stadium has a 300-screen in-house television system (Digital Signage) based on IPTV technologies from Haivision and D-Link, and a fiber-optic connection to the National Television Company of Uzbekistan. The infrastructure includes about 100,000 meters of various types of Draka cables from Prysmian Group.

The equipment room is equipped with a Ross Video CrossOver mixing console, two Ross XPression 3D HD broadcast graphics systems, Matrox multiviewers, and JVC Professional multiformat monitors. The project also involved a matrix switcher from Imagine Communications, solutions from Nevion, Blackmagic Design, LEMO switching solutions, and the miniHUB distribution platform from Norwia, a universal solution for video signal transmission and distribution that allows solving many different tasks with high efficiency in difficult temperature conditions. In hot weather (and +40C is not uncommon in Tashkent), this is important.

The stadium hosts sports competitions, concerts, shows, performances and other events.

  • cable infrastructure for 35 positions for hybrid cameras, video, sound and communication; patch panels for connecting PTS;
  • equipment of commentary seats;
  • equipping a control room for managing the media system;
  • professional local lighting in press rooms, in the blitz interview area, in the panoramic studio, in the conference room and in locations for filming;
  • an in-house television system for 300 screens (Digital Signage) based on IPTV technologies;
  • fiber-optic connection with the National Television Company of Uzbekistan;
  • about 100,000 meters of cable

“This is our first foreign installation of this scale,” commented Alexander Selyaninov. – “It is a very interesting and useful experience to implement a project at such a distance in such a short time. We conducted training for operators of the mixer, graphics stations, and other infrastructure components. We are grateful to all the customer’s employees for their fruitful cooperation and trust!”
